St George College will be a registered educational provider (School) supported by The Greek Community of St George, Brisbane.

The College will be overseen by a School Board of Directors with members elected by the Board in accordance with its Constitution.

Emanuel Kallinicos

OAM, B Bus, FCPA

Emanuel is an Accountant since 1989 and Foundation Director of Kallinicos + Co Certified Practising Accountants.

He has served as a member of an advisory Committee to the Australian Taxation Office as well as on several Board’s including Kytherian Brotherhood of Queensland Ltd.

Emanuel has also acted in a voluntary capacity as a Councillor of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane at various stages since 1989, having held executive position of President, Vice President and Treasurer. He has received Life Membership of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George as well as the Community’s St George Medal for meritorious service.

In 2013 he was appointed by the Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Australia, Archbishop Stylianos, as Chairman and President of the Board of Management of the St Andrews Theological College Bribie Island Youth Retreat and Recreation Centre.

In 2019 he was awarded by Archbishop Makarios and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia with the honour of Greater Commander of the Order of Christ Loving for his commitment as a volunteer to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Church.

Barbara Vasdekis

Bachelor of Education (Griffith University)

Barbara is a registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers. She has been a classroom and English as a Second Language teacher at Brisbane Grammar School, Anglican Church Grammar School and Education Queensland. Barbara has mentored other teachers and contributed to extracurricular programs in Theatre, Dance, Sport, Debating and Public Speaking.

From 2003 to 2010 Barbara was a teacher at Brisbane Grammar School where she contributed to the foundation of the Middle School through development of academic curriculum and student welfare programs.

Her Master of Education has allowed Barbara to specialise in Language and Linguistics and she has held consultancy positions in English Curriculum, Literacy, the Teaching of English as a Second Language and the Teaching of Languages Other than English. Barbara was a consultant to the introduction of the Greek language program into Brisbane State High School.

George Amarandos

OAM, BA, LLB, GDLP

George is a Solicitor and Principal of Amarandos & Company since 1985.

He has served as a member of several Board’s including Logan City Co-operative Housing Society, Pharmacy Board of Queensland, Commonwealth Aged care Complaints Resolution Board and Saint Nicholas Aged Care Centre.

George has also acted in a voluntary capacity as a Councillor of the Greek orthodox Community of St George, Brisbane since 1988, having held executive position on many occasions. He has received Life Membership of the Greek Orthodox Community of St George as well as the Community’s St George Medal for meritorious service. In the 2021 Queen’s Birthday Honours he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia.

In 2019 he was awarded by Archbishop Makarios and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia with the honour of Greater Commander of the Order of Christ Loving for his commitment as a volunteer to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the Greek Orthodox Church.

Kosmas (Kos) Sclavos AM

DUniv, BPharm, GradDipClinPharm, AdvDipCommPharmMgmt, FAIPM (HC), FACPP, FIPharmM, FAIM, FAICD

Kos is a pharmacist who was National President of The Pharmacy Guild of Australia from 2005 to 2013. In the preceding period he was the Qld Branch President from 1996. He has serviced on a number of Boards including Guild Insurance, Epilepsy Qld, Assistant Commissioner, Health Quality and Complaints Commission, and Terry White Chemists. Kos has been awarded an Honorary Doctor of Griffith University and an Honorary Life Membership of The Pharmacy Guild of Australia. In the 2017 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Kos was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia for his “significant service to the pharmacy profession through a range of retail, advisory and executive roles, to education, and to community health”.

Tony Papapavlou

Tony Papapavlou is a registered teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers. He has over 25 years’ experience teaching Modern Greek, Mathematics and Business Technology in the Northern Territory, South Australia and Queensland.

He began teaching in 1986 at Saint George College in Adelaide and then moved to Darwin High School where he taught for over 13 years. He moved to Brisbane in 2006 and has successfully completed short and long term teaching contracts at Sheldon College, Villanova College, Redeemer Lutheran College, Anglican Church Grammar School, Ormiston College and Victoria Point State School.

Tony was the SSABSA Chief Examiner for Modern Greek in the NT from 1988 – 1998 and the Oral Examiner for the year 12 Modern Greek Course. He also was one of the Year 12 Examination markers. He was a co-author of the Modern Greek Curriculum for the NT Department of Education.

He was appointed as the Chair of the proposed Saint Nicholas Orthodox College in Darwin in 1988 and commissioned to establish the School. This project did not come to fruition as the Greek Community of the NT was not in a viable position to proceed despite all accreditation and funding being secured.

Tony’s Masters of Educational Studies has allowed him to specialise on the Linguistic origins and Language features of the Greek Language and how it is still prevalent in the English Language.

Tony has served in a number of positions as a Master Teacher and Senior Teacher.

He has contributed to extracurricular activities by coaching College Soccer teams and also referees games during the soccer season.
