Imagine an inner-Brisbane independent college where your child will learn and grow in a caring community, develop an appreciation of the rich Hellenic culture and shape their own character through the values of the Christian Orthodox faith. We welcome students from all faiths and backgrounds.
This is St George College, a P-6 co-educational independent college in the Christian Orthodox faith tradition, under construction at South Brisbane by the Greek Orthodox Community of St George Brisbane.
St George College will be the first Christian Orthodox primary school in Brisbane and will provide students with a broad, values-based education adhering to the Australian Curriculum. In addition to the key learning areas, Modern Greek Language will be taught as part of the co-curricular component of the Curriculum.
Students will benefit from a culturally diverse community, a technology-rich learning pedagogy and a teaching and learning framework that encourages curiosity, collaboration and creativity.
Your family will be welcomed by the St George community – a well-established and supportive local faith community that is inclusive, respectful and service-minded.
The Greek Orthodox Community of St George is the oldest Greek-Orthodox community in South-East Queensland and established in 1929. (Descendants of this community population now number over 35,000). The college will be governed by a School Board of Directors.
The Community has expressed interest in establishing a college for many years as a desire to give back to others and share the Greek Orthodox Faith and Hellenic culture in a more purposeful and educational way. The new P-6 school draws on the educational experience the local Greek community has gained since opening their Greek Afternoon Ethnic School in 1927, which has long been recognised and approved by Education Queensland.
It is planned that classes P-1 will commence first with rollout of Years 2-6 following in subsequent years.
Strategic Plan
A Master Plan is presently being designed to ensure the College has a focus on sustainability as well as adequate green zones, agile and flexible learning classrooms, indoor/outdoor play areas and other facilities suitable for a city-based school landscape. Students will also have access to the Learning Resource Centre.
New facilities will be built as well as refurbishment of existing buildings to ensure a safe and engaging environment is established for students to learn and play within. The Master Plan includes the provision for new facilities being built as well as pedestrian access to the College from Browning Street, South Brisbane.
Due to our Greek community partnership, the College will have access to some of Brisbane’s best facilities including The Australian Hellenic Sports Centre (TAHSC) and The Greek Club. Other facilities such as Musgrave Park, Musgrave Park Swim Centre and nearby sporting fields will also be utilised.
